Google Block Breaker is the brick-breaking arcade game that appears inside Google Search. You bounce a ball off a paddle, smash every block, and the speed climbs as you clear levels. You start with 3 lives. Clear every block on a level to advance. If the ball drops below your paddle, you lose a life. Lose all three and the run ends.

The top two rows are tougher and worth slightly more. Everything below breaks in one hit.
How the Game Scales
The difficulty is in the speed and the number of blocks, and both are predictable:
- Level 1 starts with 4 rows of blocks. Each level adds one more row, up to a maximum of 7 rows from level 4 onward. Every level is 9 blocks wide.
- Ball speed rises a little each level. It increases by a fixed step every time you advance, so level 5 is noticeably faster than level 1 but never jumps suddenly.
- There are 8 levels. Clear all eight, and you win the run.
Because the speed climbs gradually rather than spiking, the game stays fair. You have time to adjust each level instead of being caught off guard.
Tactics That Raise Your Score
These work because of how the paddle physics in this game actually behave.
- Aim with the paddle edges. Where the ball hits the paddle decides its angle. Hit it dead center, and it goes nearly straight up. Hit it near the outer edge, and it leaves at a steep angle, up to about 60 degrees. Use center hits to drill straight up through a column, and edge hits to reach blocks stuck in the corners.
- Tunnel up one side. Instead of clearing the wall evenly, focus the ball on one far column and break a path to the top. Once the ball slips above the wall, it bounces between the ceiling and the blocks and clears a cluster on its own while you wait safely below. This is the fastest way to clear the tougher top rows without chasing them.
- Clear the 1-hit blocks around a 2-hit block first. The top rows need two hits. Do not waste a clean angle banging on them while easy single-hit blocks are still up. Open the space around them, then let a tunnel run do the work.
- Stop chasing the ball at higher levels. As speed rises, watch the angle the ball takes off the top blocks and move your paddle to where it will land early. Reacting at the last second is how you lose lives from level 5 on.
The Atari Breakout Easter Egg
Google Block Breaker shares its roots with one of the most famous hidden Google games. In 2013, for the 37th anniversary of the arcade classic Atari Breakout, Google hid a playable brick-breaker inside Google Images. Searching “Atari Breakout” turned the image thumbnails into destructible blocks you could smash with a paddle.
The original Images version was retired around May 2020. Google later added a separate Block Breaker game as its own Search feature with its own blocks and power-ups. The Atari Breakout image trick and the newer Block Breaker are two different things, which is why old guides pointing to Google Images no longer work.
It sits in the same family as other built-in Google games people search for, like the dinosaur game, Snake, and Pac-Man.
